Medicare in Orange Park
What Orange Park residents should know
Orange Park is a river town in northeast Clay County, and 28.7 percent of its residents were 65 or older in the 2020 census. It is also home to Moosehaven, a retirement community for Moose members since 1922. HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital on Kingsley Avenue is the only Level II trauma center in Clay County. Baptist Medical Center Clay is a few miles south on Fleming Island, and Ascension St. Vincent's Clay County is in Middleburg.
Three hospitals, three systems. A Medicare Advantage HMO may cover HCA Florida but not Baptist, or the other way around, and many Orange Park residents also cross the river for Jacksonville specialists. Check every doctor and hospital you use before you pick a plan. A Medicare Supplement removes that question. Plan G or Plan N works with any provider in the country who accepts Medicare. The monthly premium is higher, and you add a separate Part D plan for drugs.
NAS Jacksonville sits just up the road, so many residents are military retirees. TRICARE For Life works with Medicare and usually requires Part B. VA care is separate from Medicare. The nearest VA medical centers are in Gainesville and Lake City, with VA clinics in Jacksonville. Bring your military or VA details to a review and we will show how each plan fits around them.
Clay Community Transportation runs bus routes through Orange Park, including the Blue Line toward NAS Jacksonville. Riders 60 and older pay a 50-cent fare. Call 904-284-5977 for reservations. The Orange Park Senior Center on Stowe Avenue, run by Aging True, offers meals and programs on weekdays. Call 904-269-4731. The Orange Park Library sits on Plainfield Avenue. For free Medicare counseling, call Florida SHINE at 1-800-963-5337.
