Medicare in Arlington

What Arlington residents should know

Arlington covers the east side of the St. Johns River, from the Mathews Bridge out toward the Intracoastal Waterway. It joined consolidated Jacksonville in 1968 and is home to Jacksonville University and Fort Caroline National Memorial. Ascension St. Vincent's runs a freestanding emergency room in Arlington. For a hospital stay, most residents head across the Arlington River to HCA Florida Memorial Hospital, a Level II trauma center on University Boulevard, or to Ascension St. Vincent's Southside on Belfort Road.

That split matters for your plan. HCA Florida and Ascension St. Vincent's are separate systems, and Baptist, UF Health and Mayo Clinic are separate again. A Medicare Advantage HMO may include one and leave out another. Look up your family doctor, your specialists and the emergency room you would use before you enroll. A Medicare Supplement skips the network question. Plan G or Plan N works with any provider in the country who accepts Medicare. You pay a higher monthly premium for that, so compare the yearly cost both ways.

Veterans have two VA clinics in town. Jacksonville 2 VA Clinic sits on University Boulevard South, close to HCA Florida Memorial. VA care and Medicare are separate. The VA does not bill Medicare, so many veterans keep Part B to see community doctors too. Bring your VA details to a review and we will show how each option fits.

For rides, JTA buses serve Arlington, and riders 65 and older ride fixed routes free with a Florida ID. ReadiRide covers an Arlington zone at 904-265-6999. The Frances Padgett Arlington Senior Center on Rogero Road runs city programs. Call 904-255-6733. The Regency Square and University Park library branches have free computers for Medicare.gov tasks. For free counseling, call Florida SHINE at 1-800-963-5337.

Annual Enrollment runs October 15 to December 7. That is the time to recheck whether your doctors stay in network next year.
