Medicare in Jacksonville Beach

What Jacksonville Beach residents should know

Jacksonville Beach keeps its own city government inside Duval County, and one in five residents was 65 or older in the 2020 census. Baptist Medical Center Beaches on 13th Avenue South runs the only hospital-based, 24-hour emergency service at the beach. Mayo Clinic is a few miles south on San Pablo Road. For other specialists, residents travel across the Intracoastal Waterway to the Southside or downtown.

Your plan should cover the hospital you would reach first. If you choose a Medicare Advantage plan, check that Baptist Beaches is in network, and check Mayo Clinic too if you see doctors there. Some plans include one system and not the other. A Medicare Supplement works with any provider in the country who accepts Medicare, with no network or referrals. You pay a higher monthly premium for that, plus a separate Part D plan for drugs.

Prescription costs often tip the decision. Two plans with the same premium can cost very different amounts once your drugs and pharmacy are counted. Bring your drug list to a review. We price it against each plan's formulary so you see the yearly total, not just the monthly bill.

For rides, JTA buses serve the beaches, and riders 65 and older ride fixed routes free with a Florida ID. JTA ReadiRide covers a Beaches zone at 904-265-6999. The Bennie Furlong Beaches Senior Center on 19th Avenue South runs city programs. Call 904-255-6730. The Beaches Branch Library in Neptune Beach has free computers for Medicare.gov tasks. For free counseling, call Florida SHINE at 1-800-963-5337.

Want a second set of eyes on your coverage? Call us for a free plan review. We check your doctors, your drugs and your budget against the plans we offer in Jacksonville Beach, all over the phone. Annual Enrollment runs October 15 to December 7. That is the time to recheck whether your doctors stay in network next year.

Next steps: compare Medicare Advantage with Medicare Supplement plans, check your Part D drug costs, or map your turning-65 timeline.
