Questions
What Jacksonville, FL retirees ask us most
Is there a fee for talking to Jacksonville Senior Insurance?
No, and there never will be. Carriers build a flat commission into every plan's price whether or not an agent is involved, so sitting down with us costs you nothing extra and never changes your premium.
When does my Medicare enrollment window actually open?
You get a seven-month Initial Enrollment Period built around your 65th birthday month: three months before, the birthday month, and three months after. Signing up early in that window keeps your coverage start date on schedule instead of getting delayed.
Will I lose access to my current doctors?
Original Medicare paired with a Medigap policy lets you see any provider nationwide who accepts Medicare, no network required. A Medicare Advantage plan is different: coverage depends on that plan's network, so we check your specific doctors and hospital, whether that's Baptist Health, UF Health Jacksonville, Ascension St. Vincent's, or Mayo Clinic Florida, against each plan's current directory first.
Should I pick Medicare Advantage or a Medigap plan?
There's no single right answer. Medigap runs a higher monthly bill but very few surprise costs and no network restrictions. Advantage keeps the monthly premium low but adds copays, referrals, and a defined network, usually bundled with drug and dental coverage. Your doctors, medications, and how much cost swing you can tolerate should decide it, not a mailer.
What's the penalty if I put off signing up for Part B?
Unless you're still covered through active employment, Medicare tacks on 10% to your Part B premium for every full 12 months you waited, and that extra charge typically sticks for as long as you're enrolled. Run your numbers through our Part B penalty calculator to see the real dollar impact.
I'm not on any medication. Can I skip Part D?
We usually advise against it. Go 63 days or more without a creditable drug plan once you're eligible and Medicare applies a permanent Part D penalty. A basic low-cost plan today almost always beats paying that penalty for the rest of your coverage.
Am I required to switch plans annually?
No, but you should double-check things each fall. Formularies, networks and copays reset every January 1st. Given how many retirees are moving into Nocatee and Ponte Vedra Beach each year and reshaping local plan networks, a quick fifteen-minute review during Open Enrollment is worth the time even if you end up staying put.
Which Jacksonville hospitals actually take Medicare plans?
Coverage here typically runs through Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville, Baptist South, UF Health Jacksonville, Ascension St. Vincent's Riverside and Southside, and Mayo Clinic Florida on San Pablo Road. Which of these a given plan includes changes year to year, so we confirm the current contract before you sign anything.
I'm under 65 and on Medicare from a disability. Can you still help?
Yes. Florida treats under-65 Medicare beneficiaries differently in a few important ways, especially around Medigap access. We'll lay out exactly what's open to you rather than assume the standard rules apply.
Do you only work with clients inside Jacksonville proper?
We cover all of Duval County and beyond, including Jacksonville Beach, Ponte Vedra Beach, Orange Park, Mandarin, Southside, Atlantic Beach, and Neptune Beach. We also regularly help retired military families connected to NAS Jacksonville and Naval Station Mayport sort out how TRICARE for Life works alongside Medicare.
